Nancy E. Quinn, Principal

Nancy E. Quinn received her MBA in Arts Administration from the Anderson School at UCLA in 1983. As part of her business school curriculum, she served as an intern in the fundraising office at New York City Ballet. Her professional experience in the arts includes managerial positions with the Sequoia String Quartet Foundation, Chamber Music America, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and San Francisco Performances. She is the founder and principal of Quinn Associates, which has been providing fundraising services for Bay Area arts organizations since 1988. In Winter 2007, Nancy served as an Adjunct Professor at California College of the Arts.

Julie Kanter, Development Manager

Julie joined Nancy E. Quinn Associates in 1994. She is a development manager with considerable experience working directly for non-profit arts and media organizations. She served as General Manager for Kate Foley Company from 1991 to 1993. Julie was also employed as a Grants Associate at Dance Bay Area and as an intern at KQED television in the Capital Development Department. Julie holds a BA in Dance from Pitzer College (one of the Claremont Colleges) and has participated in numerous conferences and seminars on non-profit administration and fundraising. Prior to getting involved in arts administration, Julie danced with ODC/SF, touring nationally and internationally over a period of ten years. She has a son who cries when he sees his mother dancing on TV in "old" ODC videotapes.

Sheri Kuehl, Development Manager

Sheri Kuehl comes to Quinn Associates with 12 years of experience in arts administration. A native of the Midwest, Sheri's career began at Door County Wisconsin's Door Community Auditorium, where she worked as a box office manager and then as Operations Director. She also served that community as the Program Director and Development Director of Peninsula Art School. Sheri moved to the Bay Area in 2002, and has been the Development Director of Berkeley's Cazadero Music Camp, and the Development Director of The Crucible in Oakland. An effective and experienced grant writer, Sheri also has broad experience with all facets of nonprofit arts fundraising including strategic planning, board development, individual donor campaigns, and special events. More at home in the audience than on the stage, Sheri is a strong advocate for making art more accessible to everyone, with an emphasis on providing arts education to young people. She holds a B.A. in economics and art history from Gustavus Adolphus College.

Theron Shaw, Development Manager

Theron joined Quinn Associates in 2007. He has a Master's of Public Affairs from the Hubert Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota. Theron has worked in non-profit administration and fundraising since 1995, with wide-ranging experience in the fields of arts, education, environment and social services. Before moving to the Bay Area in 2005, Theron helped to found and manage the Recovery Café, a recovery-focused community café in downtown Seattle, Washington. Theron also performs around the Bay Area, with a passion for work that combines theater, dance, circus and live music.

Lori Zook, Development Manager

Lori has been involved in arts production and administration since 1991. A resident of Oakland since 1983, she became the executive director of Oakland Opera Theater in 1998. During her tenure, the company developed an administrative infrastructure, experienced substantial audience growth, and successfully began fundraising. She also co-founded the company's venue, the Oakland Metro in 2001. She has served on arts funding panels for the City of Oakland and the Arts Council of Silicon Valley, and has been involved in several other arts initiatives, including ArtVote, Spokes of a Hub, and the Coalition to Preserve Oakland Cultural Venues. In May 2006, she was appointed to the Oakland Cultural Arts Commission. She lives in Oakland with her daughter, Natasha.


Amy Kweskin

Amy Kweskin is an internationally recognized non-profit management consultant with a specialization in organizational sustainability. She has worked with hundreds of arts and culture organizations to assess and develop strategic plans that capitalize on earned revenue opportunities and cross-sector partnerships, while developing leadership capacity of board and staff. Recognized for her expertise, Amy was brought on as Professor of Arts Administration at the University of Houston Downtown and subsequently was invited to study in the Arts Management Doctoral program at City University in London, England.

In 2006 Amy relocated to London to guide an international social enterprise in building sustainable business development practices. As an alternative to moving into the academic track, Amy trained as leadership coach in the U.K., to ensure that she could best support non-profit leaders in reaching their fullest potential. She returned to the San Francisco Bay Area in May 2008.

Amy was a Research Fellow with Americans for the Arts in 2005-06. She earned a Masters in Arts Administration from Golden Gate University and Bachelors Degrees in Cinema/Photography and English from Ithaca College.

Katy Hilton, Senior Development Associate

Katy Hilton has been working in the Bay Area theatre in arts administration and as a playwright, director and producer since moving here in 2003. She is an extremely devoted and passionate member of the Bay Area arts community, specifically focused on the field of new play development for the theatre. She is an Artistic Associate at the Magic Theatre, and has recently worked with the Playwright's Foundation, foolsFURY, mugwumpin, Just Theater, and is a founding member of the brave trade narrative.

Randi Lund, Development Associate

Randi hails from New Jersey, where she received her BA in Political Science at Rutgers University and worked for two years as the Events / PR Coordinator at the Arts Council of Princeton. She moved to San Francisco in January of 2006 just because, and worked as an advisor at the Academy of Art University before returning to her nonprofit roots by joining the Quinn Associates team in December of 2006.


Alison Yoder, Development Associate

A native of Andover, Mass., she moved to California in 2004 and it instantly felt like home. Alison graduated from University of Colorado Boulder in 2003 with a degree in Dance. Soon after she realized Arts Administration was a perfect fit for her artistic goals and personality: she loves being in charge, organizing, and supporting her community. Alison is excited to be working with Quinn Associates and immersing herself in the Bay Area arts scene.

Brechin Flournoy, NEQA/Communications Director

Brechin Flournoy is cultural omnivore who brings 22 years experience as an independent producer, choreographer, and impresario to her position at Quinn Associates. A graduate of Antioch College, Brechin's early administrative career blossomed into the role of Founding Director of the San Francisco Butoh Festival for which she was awarded a San Francisco Bay Guardian GOLDIE Award and the Isadora Duncan Award (IZZIE) for Sustained Achievement in the Arts. An accomplished speaker, Brechin has taught PR/Marketing workshops for Center for Cultural Innovation Business of Art program, The Field, Theatre Bay Area, the ArtsReach National Arts Marketing Conference, among others. In June '08 Brechin facilitated a panel discussion about mid-career arts leadership as part of the Americans for the Arts conference in Philadelphia, PA.

Lisa Okuhn, NEQA/Communications Press Agent

Lisa Okuhn is a writer and retired dancer. She has danced with ODC/SF, Deborah Slater, and Kate Foley among other Bay Area companies. While living in New York she worked with Laura Dean, Bebe Miller and Ralph Lemon. Ms. Okuhn attended Sarah Lawrence College and is finishing her degree through the St. Mary's College LEAP program.
