12/1 Joyce Dutka Arts Foundation Visual Arts Contest - a juried visual arts contest. Artwork must fall into one of the following categories: oil, acrylic, and mixed media. All subjects and styles are eligible. Cash awards will total up to $5,000. Artists will have their work exhibited and offered for sale at Madison Avenue's Hollis Taggert Galleries. 12/1 Preserve America Community Designation - Community leaders across the United States are invited to apply for the Preserve America community designation, which recognizes a community's efforts to care for and share its cultural and natural heritage. The designation also makes the community eligible for special federal funding.

11/15-12/15 Morris Stulsaft Foundation (RECEIPT DEADLINE - in office by noon) - dedicated to the well-being of children and youth (ages 0 to 22) through financial support of nonprofit organizations providing social services; education, including arts education; and physical and mental health; provides funding for organizations in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara Counties. NOTE: this submission window is for educational enrichment: arts and culture, and career training; decision expected in late March 2008.
12/15 Pacific Pioneer Fund Documentary Film Program - provides funding for organizations to support emerging documentary filmmakers or videographers who live and work in California, Oregon, and Washington. Grants range from $1,000 to $10,000 (also 5/1 and in September).
12/15 Stocker Foundation LOI (RECEIPT deadline by 5pm) - The Foundation will
narrow its grantmaking to focus solely on programs/services that positively
affect children, youth, and families. The Board has identified services for
public school students in Kindergarten through 5th grade as its primary funding
interest. For the next 3-5 years, the Board will issue RFPs (request for proposals)
for direct services addressing the following: Literacy; Afterschool & Summer
Programs; Supplemental Enrichment; and Wraparound Services. If your organization's
mission and/or program offerings do not align with the Foundation's new funding
focus AND your organization has received more than one grant from The Stocker
Foundation in the past five years, your organization may be eligible to apply
for a "transition" grant. Please call Foundation staff to receive
further information and to schedule a pre-submission interview. Confirming your
organization's eligibility with Foundation staff is a required first step in
the process of applying for a "transition" grant.
12/30 Puffin Foundation - makes grants that encourage emerging artists in the fields of art, music, theater, dance, photography, and literature whose works due to their genre and/or social philosophy might have difficulty being aired. The Foundation does not have the means to fund large film/documentary proposals, grants for travel, continuing education, or the writing or publishing of books. Grants can only be awarded to permanent residents and citizens of the United States. U.S. citizens whose projects encompass work in other countries are still eligible to apply. Average grants are: $1,000 - $2,500. The Foundation will be accepting applications for the 2008 cycle Puffin Foundation Grant Awards starting in September through December 30, 2008, postmarked by midnight. Applications postmarked after this date will not be reviewed. ALSO VSA arts and MetLife Foundation Announce Arts Connect All Grant Opportunity - funding to create or enhance inclusive educational programs through partnerships with local public schools. A maximum of ten grants of up to $15,000 each will be awarded through the program. VSA arts and the MetLife Foundation invite proposals from arts institutions whose programs incorporate the following: inclusive teaching practices; access to students with all types of disabilities; development of social, cognitive, and artistic skills; involving people with disabilities in planning and implementation; building staff, teacher, and/or artist knowledge and skill of inclusive practices; and collaboration with public schools that engages students, parents, and school administrators. Nonprofit performing and exhibiting arts institutions, including museums, theaters, and multidisciplinary arts presenters, who are creating or have established educational programs are encouraged to apply. ALSO Chamber Music America's Residency Partnership Program - supports non-traditional partnerships among ensembles, presenters, and community-based organizations, with the goal of bringing live ensemble music to urban, rural, and suburban audiences across the United States. Short-term residency projects (a minimum of three days with a minimum of three residency activities) will receive grants ranging from $2,500 to $6,000 each. Extended residency projects (a minimum of ten activities over a period of one month to a year) will receive grants of from $5,000 to $12,000 each. Multi-year residency projects (up to three years with a minimum of 12 activities annually) will receive up to $15,000 each per residency year. To be eligible, applicants and program participants (organizing and performing partners) must be organization members of Chamber Music America at the time of application, and be based in the United States. ALSO PageTurner Awards - for people, companies, schools, and other institutions who find original and effective ways to spread the joy and excitement of books and reading. The awards are open to individuals who are residents of U.S. or Canada. There is $250,000 in annual cash prizes. 2007 nomination deadline as 12/9; check website for updates.

ALSO United States Institute for Theatre Technology -- a membership organization
that works to promote the advancement of the knowledge and skills of those involved
in the design, management, and technical areas of the performing arts and entertainment
industry. As part of its mission, the USITT grant program supports specific
projects in design and/or technology. To be eligible for a grant, members must
be in good standing for the twelve months prior to the application date. Individual,
Professional, Senior, and Student members may apply for project support grants.
Organizational, Sustaining, and Contributing members and groups of members may
also apply for project support grants. Grants are made in amounts of up to $10,000
each. Each year's application deadline is on or about January 10. For further
